You Can Be on the Frontier
AI safety is a hard problem. We have to control a system more capable than we are, and check the enormous power of whoever controls it. It is also a young field, where many of the central questions only became possible to investigate in the past few years.
Because it is hard, it needs people from all walks of life: communicators, educators, engineers, founders, policymakers, philosophers, scientists, and strategists. Because it is young, you can reach its frontier quickly and make a difference there.
By the end of six weeks, you will understand the threats AI poses, have a strategic picture of the efforts already working against them, and have formed your own plan for what to do next.
What We Cover
- Week 1How fast is AI improving and what risks can it pose?
- Week 2Why may models develop malicious intentions?
- Week 3How can models evade our safeguards?
- Week 4Expert presentations on state of AI Safety
- Week 5Safety subfield speed-dating

Format
- Sessions are two hours and usually involve reading, discussing, and writing about three core reading areas. The exceptions are Week 4, which consists of three expert presentations on the state of the field, and Week 6, in which you will have at least two 1:1s with industry guests and our facilitators.
- 1 facilitator : 5 fellows: Fellows will be organized into cohorts of 8 to 10. Each cohort will be led by one to two of our facilitators.
- No readings required outside fellowship: You will only be expected to do readings during the 2hrs of the fellowship.
- Between Weeks 4–6, you will prepare a one page career document on your goals, current experience, and next steps, which you will have the opportunity to get feedback on in your two 1:1s in Week 6.
- For each topic we discuss, we include a foundational reading and optional frontier readings: canonical readings for those still building their foundations, and frontier readings for those with a bit more experience looking to get inspiration.
